Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises - MSMEs are the backbone of the economy and is the largest employment provider in our country. To promote MSMEs, MSMED Act 2006 was formulated by the Government. MSME registration is compulsory, to get the various benefits from the Government and banking sector under the MSMED Act.
Government of India has streamlined the process of MSME Registration. An enterprise for this process is known as “Udyam” and its registration process is known as “Udyam Registration.” From April 1, 2021 Udyam Registration has been made mandatory. Meanwhile, validity of the EM-II Entrepreneurs Memorandum Part-II and UAM - Udyog Aadhaar Memorandum registrations have been extended till December 31, 2021 due to the pandemic.
MSME has a new classification effective June 2020. Manufacturing & Service Enterprises will be classified as a micro, small or medium enterprise based on the following criteria -

Any person who intends to establish a micro, small or medium enterprise may file Udyam Registration online in the Udyam Registration portal based on self-declaration.
